BII-7060 series vector hydrophones are planar or 3D discrete arrays consisting of Pressure Gradient Hydrophones or Dipole Hydrophones: Quadrupole Hydrophone Array, Tetrahedron Array and Triaxial Dipole Array. They are sensitive to both the amplitude and the direction of the acoustic wave in a plane, provide cosine and sine (or orthogonal "figure 8") directivity patterns in dipole plane. Depending on complex weighting of each element, different directional beam patterns can be implemented such as cardioid and endfire.
The particle velocity can be calculated with the pressure gradient. Besides, a triaxial dipole can be set up with two planar array orthogonally to overcome the ambiguity in three dimensions.
BII-7061 and BII-7066 consist of four sensing elements (or two orthogonal dipoles) in a plane with four outputs in a small compact size. With different wiring of the four outputs, the hydrophone can be used as a conventional omnidirectional hydrophone, a Sine and Cosine dipoles, two orthogonal dipoles or two orthogonal pressure gradient hydrophones.
